Our Last Comic Con

Comic Con 2013 was AXE COP DOC’s last Comic Con. All principal shoots are done! If you were at Comic Con this year, you may have seen us at the Axe Cop booth, the ADHD signing event, and the Mezco Toyz booth. And speaking of “Toyz,” we couldn’t resist the “Wexter” and “Avocado Man” plush toys. They were pretty amazing as were the patrols of “Axe Cop” clad folks hanging out by the mega “Axe Cop” balloon and the Fox food truck. The best event, however, was Ethan and Malachai’s Comic Con panel. Malachai, as usual, was in top form by providing his own personal critique of an “Axe Cop” ADHD cartoon seg ...

New Beginnings and Happy Endings

Last week we had the privilege of attending Ethan Nicolle’s wedding. It was a beautiful event. Ethan’s delightful friends and family members were there, including Malachai who was decked out in a handsome suit. That day, all of our hearts were bursting with happiness for Ethan and Jessica. The fact that they had found each other was nothing short of miraculous. But we shouldn’t have been surprised. Ethan’s fierce faith, stellar talent, and quiet wit were bound to land him true love. Where Ethan goes from here, will have to be another film. We’re racing to finish the documentary in front of us. There’s more production work to be do ...

Working Silently Behind the Scenes…

. Our Axe Cop Doc Facebook page, tweets, and blog entries have been silent of late, but it’s not because we haven’t been hard at work. Our brave editor, Lissette Cruess, whom you see here, has taken all of our footage and formatted it. That may not sound like a big deal, but it was a tremendous task given that so much of our footage was shot on different cameras! Thanks to Ms. Cruess, everything has now been beautifully organized and logged. The next step is to transcribe all 35+ interviews. When that process is completed, director Nancy Oey will pour through the logs and transcripts to craft a script. Making independent documenta ...

Nick Offerman: Our Hero

This is rewards week at our Kickstarter campaign. All week long we’ll be adding new rewards, so check back every day at http://kck.st/WbLvnV. On Monday we had a big one for you. Nick Offerman, actor, ace carpenter, and Axe Cop fan is offering to make a hand-made mahogany axe which will have three signatures burned into the handle: his, Ethan’s and Malachai’s. The Axe Cop Doc team is so grateful to Nick for this very generous contribution to our menu of rewards. We first met Nick in April, 2012 through Ethan. Seems Nick was a fan of the Axe Cop web comics. And, as fans of Nick, we knew a bit of his background: Playing “Ron Swanson” ...

Gearing up for a Strong Finish

We haven’t had a chance to blog because we’ve been busy shooting! Malachai came to Los Angeles and provided us with some very funny footage. There’s also exciting news afoot: First of all, we are revamping our website, with a far more entertaining blog. Secondly, we are assembling our post production team. And lastly, we are launching a Kickstarter campaign. Yep, we’re going down that road, but we have to. Our credit cards are maxed out and we’ve worn out the last of our favors. So the inevitable. We hope we can count on your support. More information to come. ...

Almost Done

Bill, Nancy, and Hieu attended Comic-Con in San Diego earlier this month. That’s Bill with a steadicam. It’s more than 60-pounds and he carried that puppy all over, obtaining very cool footage for our documentary. We had a wonderful time (Even Bill– though he’s not smiling in this photograph). We checked in on Ethan, his fans, and a number of fellow artists including Christopher Hastings of Dr. McNinja and the geniuses behind Rifftrax. All and all it was amazing. What’s next? We will be concentrating on editing all of our spectacular footage and are aiming to have our “Axe Cop Documentary” ready for your viewing pleasure ver ...

Shooting with Ethan

Following the story behind “Axe Cop” has been a lot of fun and our shoot on Friday, June 1 was no exception. Ethan treated us to some hysterical sound effects at 6 Point Harness Animation Studios. No one could keep a straight face. We have just a few more shoots scheduled and then onto the big job of going through all of our footage and crafting the documentary. We’re talking more than a year’s worth of material! But we’re confident that when it’s all finished, you’ll enjoy the final piece. ...

New York, New York

We just got back from a week of shooting in Boston and the Big Apple. We also brought Ethan along and captured his victory match at ROFL.con’s “ART FIGHT” at MIT in Boston. As a master artist, Ethan truly destroyed the competition! In New York, we grabbed some more great footage and some excellent interviews. Dr. McNinja creator Christopher Hastings, and legendary story board artist Brick Mason were part of the line-up. A very odd thing we noticed. Many of our interviewees and crew members have the most adorable canine companions. Check out our gallery for pictures of Bartleby, Commissioner Gordon, and Millie Jean. ...

Busy Spring

This week FOX network announced that it will air Axe Cop episodes! We’re delighted for Ethan and Malachai. We also have a little something to celebrate: We’ve been extremely fortunate to get on camera, Sandeep Parikh, the guy we all fell in love with as Zaboo on the award-winning web series The Guild. Also interviewed was Brendan Burch, one of the geniuses behind 6 Point Harness Animation Studios. And last but not least, the wonderful Nick Offerman. You know him as Leslie’s boss on Park’s and Recreation. He gave us a hilarious interview in his wood shop. Now what do all of these talented and creative souls have to do with “Axe C ...

We’re Back…

It feels great to be out in the field again shooting for the Axe Cop Documentary. Last week Prentice and I caught up with Ethan at home. He was just finishing up an incredible breakfast of steak and an omelette. We were mighty envious, as we had just downed a couple of dry pastries. But thus fortified, we were able to capture Ethan hard at work. We are pleased to report that his work ethic and discipline are nothing short of amazing. We were also able to interview his cool roommate Phil. More shoots and interviews are being planned at this very moment… ...
